Beginning of Great Lent.. New Post

Well, here we are, fellow travelers..  We have come to the "Celebrated Sadness" that is Great Lent..  For those of you Blog fans who don't know, Orthodox Christians fast from meat (including fish), dairy, oil & wine.  We also strive for a more personal relationship with God himself.  We also strive to lead a more "Christ-like" life.  (We are supposed to do it 24/7/365, but for the most part, we fall flat on our faces at some times..  Me, especially..) Now, in some places, a service project is usually put into effect to do some good will in your community..  Some go to homeless shelters, and yet others bring a few minutes of joy to patients in hospitals and in nursing homes. But I have stumbled upon something that has been around since the dawn of time..  The Random Act of Kindness..  Here's how it works..  When you are driving home from your daily job, trip to the grocery store, or even in the comfort of grabbing your paper from the porch, look out into your neighborhood..  If you know of an elderly person who is trying to shovel out their walk from any of the Snowpacalypses..  Don't just sip your Earl Grey and "supervise" throw your coat on, grab your kids and your snow blower and help the old guy/gal out..  You never know when those kinds "small good deeds" can do for both parties..  The elderly person gets his walkway shoveled..  You get 4+ hours exercise..  (C'mon..  shoveling 3 feet of snow isn't a ten minute workout on the ab-roller, now is it??)  Sometimes, it's not the BIG gestures people.. It's the little ones that get noticed..

Now go out there, and shovel Mrs. Patchoulowskioff's (pronounced "Packs") walkway before the street lights come on, or you're in trouble, kid..
